Totally with you on this. A writing system doubles as a thinking system. When you capture and process ideas every day, publishing becomes a side effect. The bigger win is how much faster you spot patterns that others miss.
๐ฏ - I stopped using Obsidian earlier this year and I've felt the drag. Nowadays I struggle to watch anything (except of course a Marvel film/show, and the occasional footy game). There's a voice in the head that just says... wouldn't it be better to read that book/ article Or listen to that podcast/book etc. nice to hear about your highlighting process also. I toyed with zettlekasten... But nowadays I'm more keyword search!
I used to have a system to process information like that but found it way too time-consuming to maintain. Currently, I just ingest information and let it marinate in my mind. If it's something that eats me inside, I'll blurt it out. It's pretty effective to select important information, but too dependent on circumstances.
How do you usually process the highlights that you then gather from Readwise to Obsidian? Do you go through your highlights periodically and link them to other notes?
I feel this!! I follow the same process with a little more manual input obsidian. I write some key notes before I input it into obsidian. Yes , itโs a drag but I feel it sink more into my brain. Thanks for sharing ๐
This is such a great article. Reminds you how simple systems can create stellar outputs. Saving this so I can keep coming back for clarity.
All the best! And thanks for your valuable comment ๐

And it doesn't take as much effort as people may think (although, I suspect, some people are more "natural" at it than others...)
Manual input into obsidian

Obsidian makes it so easy to just store things and retrieve them by search I can't see myself changing this process for a long time ๐

For EDGE, would love for you and Dr. Julie Gurner to have a conversation!
